The cottage was beautiful

We have just returned from a wonderful week staying at The Green in Market Overton. The whole family had such a great time, the cottage was beautiful, clean and spacious and a great location for Watersports on Rutland Water and exploring the local area.

We would 100% return in the future.

Lovely property, great location

Very clean, well equipped and maintained property. As a family of 4 we found it spacious and perfect for our stay. Well equipped kitchen and loads of books/DVD's we could have stayed a month. Excellent WiFi. Owner was very helpful and replied promptly to any correspondence - damage deposit returned very quickly. The location is ideal for cycling and visiting Rutland water, we enjoyed a meal in the nearby pub and were only a short drive from Oakham for all necessary amenities. A very enjoyable break at a great property, thanks.

Beautiful cottage, tranquil village, lovely area.

The cottage was beautiful and very well equipped with everything we needed. The owners had thoughtfully provided amongst other things milk, fresh bread, butter, jam and biscuits all of which tasted amazing. The beds were exceptionally comfortable and the cottage was warm and the heating was easy to control. Extensive film and book selection as well as some games mean that whatever the weather you will be fully occupied. Rutland water and Oakham are close by and well worth a visit.

A Real Gem

We stayed here for a week whilst moving house, just so we had somewhere as a bit of a 'bolthole' so the decorators and plumbers could do some work on our new purchase. This cottage is so well equipped and comfortable, with such a pretty conservatory/diner to the rear overlooking the garden. We really enjoyed returning in the evening after working on the house, or during the day just for a break. The owner, Pat, is so lovely and friendly. We were treated to a 'welcome pack' of local bread and jam, plus biscuits and a lovely bottle of wine. Everything is provided to ensure your stay is perfect.

Excellent location, comfortable and cosy.

The Rutland area is ideal for friends and family to visit, both from the North and South ( I live overseas and was also attending a wedding at Rockingham Castle ). I have stayed in similar cottages 3 times over the last few years, but The Green certainly was above the others. Great attention to detail with the finishing details and I wanted to bring the kitchen back. Feels much more like a home than a holiday rental. Great "welcome pack" upon arrival, including award winning bread.Pat pre booked my "wedding taxi" for me and after a slight mix up with my dates I stayed an extra night. That,s service and flexibility which is becoming rarer these days. This is an area often overlooked in the UK, gentle walks, great pubs, serving delicious food, interesting gardens and both National Trust and English Heritage sites to visit . I will definitely return as there is nothing not to like.

A dream!

We had a wonderful stay. The cottage was beautifully presented, very quaint but with lots of funky colours in the kitchen and well chosen art works on display. The garden was perfect. A table to sit in the sun for breakfast and then another wee one to catch the evening rays. All peaceful and quiet with plenty of birds to spot, including a red kite! The three bedrooms were very comfy. Great beds. Lots of fresh clean linen and fluffy towels. One bathroom but endless hot water kept three teenagers clean. Good TV and a interesting selection of books and DVDs to browse. A chest full of family games was found too! A well stocked community shop just a few yards away and a village pub. The Lodge is a local charity for adults with learning difficulties and they have a super cafe. Met lovely folk at the local free church in the village hall. Gorgeous village to wander round, very pretty with stocks on the green! Loads to see and do in the area. Oakham lovely but Stamford spectacular! Amazing boutiques and shoe shops, cafes and pubs. Afternoon tea at the George was an elegant highlight. The owners delightful and left us a thoughtful welcome pack of essentials including the local award wining Hambleton bread. After a quick explanation of bits and pieces they left us to it, no interference or lurking. Easy to find, about 15 mins from A1. So peaceful. Loved it and hope to go again soon.

A cosy cottage with excellent facilities

Three friends and I stayed for 8 nights whilst on a course in Syston. A B&B or hotel would have been a bit grim for this length of time, but the cottage was perfect for us. It's incredibly well equipped, very like a home from home, and very comfortable. It's a quiet location - no noisy traffic to keep you awake or wake you up and so it's very peaceful. There's plenty to do in the local area - walk around the village or further afield around nearby Rutland Water where you can also hire bikes. Thoroughly recommended.

Perfect weekend

Absolutely lovely cottage. Beautifully maintained and decorated, the cottage had everything you could possibly want! Also a great location, within walking distance of a well stocked local store and a really nice little pub with good food. There were 5 of us there for a long weekend and it really was a perfect weekend. I just wish we could have stayed longer.

Perfect cottage

This is a truly stunning country cottage. It's full of character and beautifully furnished, and has a fantastic rear extension which opens onto a perfect little garden. There's wiFi, a flat-screen TV, plenty of DVDs and books, as well as a box of games. The kitchen is extremely well appointed, with a dishwasher and every kitchen accessory one might need - we counted five pairs of scissors! A carefully balanced mix of old and new, this charming cottage is perfect for a relaxing break. The owners are absolutely delightful too. The cottage is situated in the tiny village of Market Overton, which is very attractive and has a well-stocked little shop and a good pub.

A Lovely Cottage

It is not often that you walk into a holiday let and feel instantly at home, but the owners of The Green have put a lot of care and attention into the rental arrangements at their lovely cottage, and it really shows. The welcome pack, including fabulous local bread and jam, and extra supplies in the fridge and cupboards were much appreciated. The beautiful flowers in the light-filled conservatory were an unexpected and very pleasant surprise. The beds were very comfortable with lovely sheets and towels, far more luxurious than we had expected. We were unlucky with the weather (early October), but the cottage was a cosy haven in which to curl up and relax. There was enough space that even with five adults you could find some peace and quiet if that was what you wanted. The basket full of details of local attractions and ordinance survey maps was really helpful. We were particularly pleased to have been directed to the Hambleton Bakery (Britain's Best Bakery 2012), which is located close by and where we went most days for supplies.

We were also extremely pleased with the location of the cottage. The fact that the village of Market Overton does not have a main road running through it added to the tranquility of the location and also to the whole feel of the place. It has a relaxed charm, the village shop has good supplies and they were happy to reserve our newspapers for us (as well as selling delicious croissants). Although it was also very handy to have the Black Bull pub in easy walking distance, the kitchen at the cottage was so well equipped that we ate there most nights, including a wonderful roast lamb from a farm shop in Cold Overton recommended on Rick Stein's website.

We hope to return next year!

Fabulous

We recently stayed at the property for 2 weeks whilst my daughter was settling into Oakham School. The facilities were excellent and it is very well equipped. The owners were incredibly helpful and friendly. In fact, I even managed to leave something behind which they delivered to my daughter at Oakham School after I had returned to New York where I live. The house is situated in a lovely village with an excellent village shop and pub. I can not fault the property. It was excellent.

Wonderful stay!

Highly recommended! Beautiful cozy, warm cottage in quiet village. Steps from a great pub with excellent food, and a well-stocked village shop. Short drives to Stamford or Oakham for larger selection of shops/restaurants/things to do. Very well appointed, including fluffy towels, soft bed linens, every kitchen gadget you can think of, books, DVDs and games. Owners were gracious and accommodating. Can't wait to visit again!
